Rules & Policies




All persons attending a Journey Dancesport Event

(spectators, competitors, officials, staff, guests, etc.)

  Shall be bound by the rules and regulations of Journey Dancesport and the AAU and participating in this event, automatically become obligated to adhere to them.

Every person attending a Journey DanceSport Event does so at his or her own risk and expressly and irrevocably waves any claim or claims against the AAU, Journey DanceSport, its organizers, employees, volunteers and representatives arising from any loss, personal injury, death or damage associated with this event.

Journey DanceSport, its organizers and the AAU accept no responsibility for damage, loss or theft of property left in the Changing Rooms, Ballroom, Breakout Rooms or Convention Center.

This event may be photographed by video, photography or other method. All persons attending this event may be photographed and, by their presence, waive any claim related to the use of that photography and the rights of any copyright, privacy or publicity associated with said photography. Journey DanceSport and its organizers reserve all print, electronic and broadcast rights and reserve the right to use any and all photography taken at a Journey DanceSport Event for future promotional purposes.

All DanceSport athletes at a Journey DanceSport Event must be a registered member with the AAU, organization for current year and provide valid proof of their current registration at the event.

Waivers for minors must be signed by a parent or legal guardian.

Entries consist of completed entry form, signed waiver, general associated form (if applicable) & payment in full. Incomplete entries will not be processed. Entries and changes received after the registration end date will be accepted only at the discretion of the organizers and if space & time permit.

Changes or additions to entries after the registration end date will be accepted at the sole discretion of the organizers.

All entries must be complete and all fees paid including AAU membership before competitor numbers are issued and before competitors are allowed to dance.

The organizers reserve the right to modify the final schedule if necessary. Events may commence up to 30 minutes prior to their scheduled time.

Competitors must be in the ballroom at least 30 minutes before their scheduled event and in the “on deck” area at least 2 heats prior to their scheduled heat. Events will not be delayed for latecomers.

Events with less than 3 entries may be cancelled or combined across age and/or gender divisions.

The judges’ decisions will be final. No competitor shall question or harass a judge about his or her personal marks.

Marks will be posted via O2CM system.

All closed syllabus events will be invigilated using the current Journey Dancesport list of elements and restrictions. Warnings and/or penalties may be given without warning for any syllabus infractions.

Competitors shall conduct themselves in a civil, sportsmanlike manner at all times while on the competition premises and in accordance to AAU membership.

The organizers reserve the right to reject entries from competitors who have previously violated rules of conduct at other events.

Cancellations must be made in writing. Cancellations received by the organizers on or before registration end date will receive a refund (minus a $50 service charge) by mail no later than 30 days after completion of the event. No refunds will be issued for cancellations received after the registration end date. Credit or partial credit toward entry fees for the following year, may be considered at the sole discretion of the organizers in emergency situations when notified prior to the start of the competition and when accompanied by a physician’s certificate.

Journey Dancesport costume rules will be enforced. Warnings and/or penalties may be given without warning for any syllabus infractions. The dress code for spectators is as follows: casual for daytime, dress attire for evening. Smoking is not permitted in the Ballroom, Foyer or Changing Rooms at any time.

Competition House Rules 

No smoking or alcohol permitted

This is a smoke-free facility. Please go outdoors if you wish to smoke.

No outside food or  drink

This is a facility Rule.

On deck system

During this competition. The On-Deck system will be used to organize participants. According,

All competitors must report to the designated deck area three heats prior to their own heats in order to     ensure inclusion into the line-up. Couples MUST be in the ballroom in full costume and ready to dance at least 30 minutes before their scheduled heats. Any competitors not present when called to the floor for their heat will be dropped. We would also request everyone’s cooperation with the deck captain in lining up in the correct order. Only competitors and officials are permitted are permitted in the On Deck Area.

PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEOGRAPHY

Videography is NOT ALLOWED in ballroom. Videos will be available for purchase. Photos are allowed how- ever, unless you are the official registered photographer, you must take pictures only while sitting in your seat. Please be courteous and do not obstruct anyone’s view of the dancing. There will be no photographing or videoing from the edge of the dance floor or aisles. Flash photography is not allowed unless by the official photographer. All pictures and video are for one’s personal use only and are not for commercial use or sale without express permission of the organizer. Monitors will be on duty to enforce these rules.

IMAGE ReLEASE

Portions of this event may be filmed and/or photographed by the organizer, its agents, various local and print media or other third parties with organizer expressed permission. By entering this venue, you give the  organizer the right to use, publish, reproduce, modify, adapt, and distribute your image at any time in any manner or medium. You agree that the organizer does not require your consent or approval of the finished product.

DISCLAIMER FOR ALL ATTENDEES

No responsibility for personal or property injury, loss or theft in any area of the facility can be accepted by the event organizers, volunteers, or the AAU. Everyone attending the event does so at his or her own risk.

The organizer reserves the right to expel any individual from the facility for unruly behavior. Competitors found violating AAU rules, or are observed in the act of misconduct or unsportsmanlike behavior will be disqualified from the competition and subject to disciplinary action.
